Reading
It is so important that you keep reading regularly over this period of time in order to further your literacy skills and grow your vocabulary.
Find a great book that you find interesting- any genre, any author, etc. Spend some time reading everyday, and record your thoughts while you read. Talk to your friends and family about what you are reading, and encourage other family members to read the same book as you; you can have a little book talk together everyday!

Quarantine Journal
When we started discussing History, and everyones love for it became apparent (*note a tone of sarcasm), I told you that History was so important to study because we can use it to learn from past mistakes, to plan for the future, to reflect on society, and the changes that have occurred over periods of time. Unfortunately, we are learning that first hand through this national pandemic. Take some time everyday to record your thoughts. Reflect on your feelings, your daily activities, and your thoughts as you go about the day. Set aside some time to express and reflect. I have started doing this; not only to give myself something to look back on when all of this is over, but also for self-care. Reflecting on your feelings and thoughts and taking time to express them is good for your mental health! Take some pictures, and add these as photo evidence so that when you look back on your words, you have some visual memories as well. Or, if you can't take a picture- draw one!
Speeches
The next unit for Language is Speech Writing. If you are looking for something to do, I suggest trying to find a speech topic that will enable you to write a clear, engaging, and persuasive speech. How do you find a speech topic? Consider the following three things:
1. Think about something you LOVE.
2. Think about something people would find INTERESTING.
3. Think about something you already KNOW things about.
Your speech topic needs to be something that would fall into all three of these categories.

After you have chosen a speech topic, consider the purpose of your speech and the audience.
Who are you trying to persuade? Who are you trying to inform? What impact would you like to have on your audience?
Make sure your speech topic is NARROW. Having too broad of a speech topic will make it difficult to write a clear and concise speech. The best way to narrow a topic is to start researching. Peruse a variety of resources and make some notes about the information you find. What grabs your attention? What do you find the most interesting?
Take this as an example:
Topic: Birth Order
(Birth order is the order in which children are born into a family. Research says that there are specific characteristics about each member of a family (first born, middle child, youngest child, etc).
This is a really large topic. It would be impossible to write a clear and concise speech.
Narrowed Topic:
Does being the first born in my family affect my personality and character traits?
Often times when we narrow our topic into a research question, we have an easier time developing main points for our speech.
It could take a while to come up with a good, narrow speech topic. Take your time. Do not rush this step- it is vitally important to creating a good speech!
